Ghana Commission for UNESCO to Support TCC-CIMET in Advancing STEM and Innovation Initiatives
The Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, Osman T. Damba, PhD, has assured TCC-CIMET of the Commission’s support in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as well as other innovative initiatives.
He gave this assurance when a delegation from the TCC International Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing, Technology Transfer, and Entrepreneurship (TCC-CIMET) paid a courtesy visit to the Ghana Commission for UNESCO to officially congratulate and welcome him as the newly appointed Secretary-General.
“We will provide all the necessary support required to elevate the centre to a much bigger platform. We understand the dynamics of innovation, engineering, and research, and we recognize the immense benefits they bring to Ghana as a whole.
“Once again, regarding funding, facilitation, and all the support you may need count on us. Knock on our doors; keep us informed. If you make us aware of your activities, we will support the centre’s efforts toward sustainability, knowledge generation, prototype development, and all forms of engineering work that lead to wealth creation. We will be present whenever the need arises,” he said.
Leader of delegation and Director General of TCC-CIMET, Prof. Francis Davis, delivered a presentation highlighting the Centre’s mission and capabilities. He emphasized TCC-CIMET’s readiness to collaborate with the government to establish regional Centres of Excellence that foster innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship across the country.
“We have the infrastructure, the expertise, and the machinery to collaborate with the government in establishing a Centre of Excellence aligned with the government's goal of setting up STEM/TVET Centres of Excellence in every region,” he said.
In response, Dr. Damba expressed his appreciation for the visit and assured the delegation of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO’s commitment to supporting TCC-CIMET in achieving its objectives. He reaffirmed the Commission’s openness to partnerships that promote sustainable development and capacity building.
Also present at the meeting were Riche-Mike Wellington, Deputy Secretary-General for Programs; Naazia Ibrahim, Deputy Secretary-General, Operations Riche-Mike Wellington, Deputy Secretary General, Programs, Apollonius O-A. Asare, Chief Programs Officer and Rhoda Dufie Dwobeng, Junior Assistant Registrar TCC-CIMET).
