KNUST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA), formalizing a strategic partnership to drive innovation, capacity building, and community-focused development in the municipality.

The MoU follows months of discussions between KNUST’s TCC-CIMET and OMA, identifying areas for collaboration in engineering innovation, skills development, community projects, and evidence-based policymaking.

Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, Municipal Coordinating Director Mrs. Joyce Angmorteh highlighted the partnership’s potential to create jobs, strengthen local capacity, and deliver long-term benefits for Obuasi’s communities.

Prof. Francis Davis, Director-General of TCC-CIMET, emphasized that this collaboration opens the door to transformative initiatives leveraging research, technology, and community engagement to deliver practical solutions.

Prof. Alexander Boakye Marful, Director for Business Development and Sustainability, stressed the importance of integrating arts, engineering, and local culture into development projects. He noted that city branding, robotics education, and other initiatives should reflect Obuasi’s unique identity and heritage to ensure sustainable impact.

The partnership will also support the Obuasi magazine model, capacity-building programs, and joint mapping of areas affected by small-scale mining.
Together, KNUST and OMA are laying the foundation for a future of sustainable innovation, cultural preservation, and community-driven growth
